We specialize in helping students explore their academic and creative interests in our unique, relationship driven college preparatory environment. We offer both week-long enrichment camps for middle and high school students as well as for-credit academic classes to students throughout San Diego County, not just current Grauer School students. This year’s summer sessions are scheduled to run from June 26 through July 14 (with July 4th off in observance of Independence Day), and July 17 through August 4.
Standard enrollment begins April 17 and closes June 9. Priority enrollment is open from March 6 to April 16 and includes a 5% reduction in tuition.
The 2017 Summer School Program offerings and schedule will be available at the beginning of February. If you have any questions, you can contact Tricia Valeski in the Summer School office at 760-274-2116 or via email at summerschool@grauerschool.com.

Summer School Adventures at Grauer

This Friday will mark the end of summer school and another successful session of sharing what we do with middle and high schoolers from all over North County.  It is amazing how quickly our teachers can reach students.  By the end of the first day, kids were saying things like “I can’t wait to come back tomorrow,” and “Mom, you know this is a really nice school.”
To see the expressions change after a few hours with teachers that help them learn, make them feel confident, and show them how to have fun doing it makes it all worth it.  Seeing Carlos Mejia '15 working alongside Lily N. '17 to help out with art camp, and to see geography camp students hanging around late on the last day of camp to keep class going if just for a little bit longer, reminds you that we are doing great things.  Thank you to Grauer teachers Tori FaxonDominique BartoughianJohnny KingFariba Farah, andClayton Payne for a great summer!

Visual Arts Camp Update- WOW! What an Amazing Week!

From Johnny King, Visual Arts Camp Instructor: We had a full group for last week's fun-filled Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, and Mixed Media summer camp! We started off the week with still-life drawings of apples and games, and then we worked as a group on "Exquisite Corpse" drawings where each student added their own personality to shared artwork projects. The students had fun trying out drawing techniques such as gestures, one line, opposite hand, and reductive using erasers, all while experimenting using different types of mediums. On Wednesday, we went to Swami's Beach for our "plein air" watercolor adventure, where the students decided to paint using real ocean water! Towards the end of the week, the students picked individual projects that interested them the most. We spend our last day working together on screen-printing t-shirts. The students left at the end of the class on Friday with quite a few art projects, a sense of accomplishment, a feeling of gratitude for having just spent a fun week working on art with their friends while making new friends, an official certificate of completion, and most importantly - a smile on their face!

Summer Starts THIS WEEK at The Grauer School

It's the first day of summer. Yes, we sure feel it. With temps in the 90's along our fair coastal home, it's definitely summertime! But, more importantly, it's Summer School and Enrichment time! Today marks the first day of our summer programming at The Grauer Summer School and we're so excited! Drop on by to see what the hubbub is all about!

Summer 2016 Week Long Enrichment

With curriculums written by our caring, dedicated staff, our week-long enrichment programs are designed to encourage intellectual curiosity during the languid days of summer. The cost of each camp is $225 per week with a $25 non-refundable enrollment fee. Enrolling in three camps qualifies families for the discount rate of $625. There is an enrollment minimum of 5 students and an enrollment maximum of 10.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH BOOT CAMP

During the middle school math boot camp, students began with an online assessment determining their areas of strength and growth. Each day of the week is then broken into 3 parts: 1) class work / review problems / mini lessons / problem solving / different mathematical approaches, 2) online activities, 3) classroom games for review of concepts and quick thinking skills. During the week the students have ample opportunity to work on skills/areas/concepts they are weak in as well as learn ways to be more proficient in their areas of strength all while having fun in a relaxed, playful environment. Students are able to continue to utilize two of the online math resources after the week concludes for future practice.

  • Dates: June 20-24, Daily 12:30-3:30pm

ALGEBRA 1 BOOT CAMP

During the Algebra 1 Boot Camp, students have a thorough review of all the topics covered during a typical Algebra 1 full-year course. For each topic, students are presented with an option of either “review the concept” or “try some problems.” If selecting review, the students are presented with an overview of the topic and a couple of examples prior to trying some problems. After going over the problems together, we determine whether the student has mastery of that topic or whether it is an area for the student to come back and work more on later. We keep a tally throughout the list of all areas mastered and all areas needing extra practice. In addition to reviewing concepts and practice problems, students are able to utilize two online math resources that they can continue with after the week concludes. The combination of brief lectures, loads of example problems, and multiple online resources provide the students with a multifaceted review of the main Algebra 1 topics in a friendly, relationship driven environment.

  • Dates: June 20-24, Daily 9-12

GEOGRAPHY BOOT CAMP

Throughout week, students will learn how to use maps to identify both physical features and political boundaries, develop a working understanding of country locations and regional specifics, and create their own maps. Each day, students will work with a different region, focusing on the countries, specific features, cultural practices, and fun facts. Regions include, but are not limited to: Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. There will be quizzes in addition to online and hands-on activities.

  • Dates: June 27- July 1, Daily 9-12

DRAWING, PAINTING, PRINTMAKING, AND MIXED MEDIA

(INTRO, INTERMEDIATE, ADVANCED)

Join us for a fun filled week of art! No matter your previous experience level in art, you will be able continue and expand your skills with the projects we create. We will start off the week with drawing exercises using graphite, charcoal, and ink, then incorporating those skills we will move into painting, printmaking, and mixed media. We will be playing some painting games, as we prep ourselves for our final painting. Some of the other mediums and types of art we will be experimenting with include: watercolor, colored pencil, acrylic paint, spray paint, linoleum and woodblock printing, and silkscreen to name a few.

We will also have the option of working on some plein air drawings and paintings at a nearby beach! Feel free to browse our art blog: http://grauerart.blogspot.com

  • Dates: June 20 – June 24, Daily 9-12

POETRY BOOTCAMP

THE SENSES – Students will approach creative writing through each of the five senses and find a way to express what they “see” in the phenomenal world. Each day is a new interaction with one of the senses. We will write original poetry and prose as a collaborative effort and as a solitary act.

  • Dates: June 20 – June 24, Daily 9-12

College Application Prep Course

Open only to rising Seniors, the College Application Preparation Course will run from July 11th through July 29th. A Grauer college counselor and English teacher walk students through the multifaceted and sometimes daunting college application process. Throughout the course students will work with a Grauer counselor to compose a comprehensive list of colleges and universities, complete the common application and receive direction in college resume writing. Students will have the common application essay and UC essays edited and critiqued by a Grauer English Teacher and develop an organizational system for keeping track of important dates and deadlines. This program costs $1000 per student.

  • Dates: July 11 – July 29, Daily 9-12

Grauer Tutoring This Summer

For some students, online learning is the most efficient way to complete a course during the summer. However, just because it’s online, that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. For students taking online classes through their local district or from a college, Grauer teachers are available to help make the most of your experience: help when you need it, feedback when you want it. We have the flexibility to schedule single or multiple sessions per week to enrich online classes. Tutoring at the Grauer School is $55 per hour.
